I am a mechanical engineer with an interdisciplinary research background and I am interested in the use of lab-on-a-chips and microfluidic technology for the study of neurodegenerative diseases. In my research, I focus on the development of acoustic-based devices to manipulate C. elegans and study the onset and early stages of dementia. Additionally, I support a number of projects which involve microfluidic structures to control the growth of neural cells or microelectrode arrays for the measurement of cell physiology.

Biography

I am a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Gabrielle Kaminski Schierle at the University of Cambridge, where I evaluate the application of microfluidic devices for the investigation of neurodegenerative diseases. I have received a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in mechanical engineering from ETH Zurich, Switzerland, before proceeding with a PhD in acoustofluidics. I have been awarded a career fellowship by the Swiss National Science Foundation to study the use of acoustics to manipulate disease model organisms and investigate the influence of trauma on the onset of dementia.
