Fiona Chan awarded PhD for work on amyloid auto fluorescence
Fiona performed investigations into the intriguing phenomenon of amyloid auto fluorescence observable in the visible range upon formation of extensive beta sheet structure occurring in amyloid fibrils. This phenomenon is intriguing because it is distinct to the fluorescence obeserved in standard dyes and it dows not depend on the presence of aromatic residues in the fibre scaffold. The thesis led to the development of new sensor concepts to track amyloidogenesis both in vitro and in vivo.
